
MyCarYourRental and Covid-19
In order to make it easier for our renters and car owner to navigate through the current environment, we've put together some guidelines as a reference. Please note, the information here is acting as a guideline during the current lockdown across New Zealand and the rest of the world, it is subject to change at any time.
MyCarYourRental is highly impacted by the current situation. We're a transport service provider and rely on both renters and car owners to operate our platform. Currently, we have seen a decrease in the demand for rental cars and everything possible is being done to tackle the situation with the best outcome for everyone. If you are an owner, stick in there, it will get better - if you are a renter, do rent through MyCarYourRental - it makes a huge difference for the owners at the site.

Refund policy - effective from 1/5-20 until further notice:
Should New Zealand move up in level again, for example from level 3 to level 4, a booking can be cancelled if it's in the period that we're at a higher level. There will be no cost for the renter/owner that needs to cancel due to this reason. The cancellation can be made once the level at the time of the booking commerces. If the alert level is back to the same as at the time of booking, a reservation will only be refunded if the renter has purchased the cancellation insurance. This refund policy is effective for new bookings made, NOT for bookings made prior to /5-2020. For changes to bookings prior to this date, please refer to our standard T&C.
Renters:
Can I still book a car through MyCarYourRental?
Yes, MyCarYourRental is operating under a TransportServiceLicense so we're exempt from the current lockdown, also at level 4 - but, you can only use the rented car if you fall under the categories where you are allowed to move around the country. For example, if your own vehicle has broken down and you need a replacement vehicle to get to and from work if you are an essential worker you'll be fine - but you can't rent a camper van and go travelling around the country. What should I do if I want to rent a car?
For the booking process, you should not do anything different from the normal procedure - however, as all car owners may not be interested in accepting new bookings under a lockdown, we recommend that you message the owner first or send us an email at renter@mycaryourrental.com first to ensure everyone is happy to go ahead.
What precautions should I take when renting a during Covid-19?
Make sure that you return the car as clean as possible, You need to ensure that all surfaces are wiped down and if possible, do that both before you leave to return the car and again when you park the car. Make sure to take all your own drop off photos as usual and arrange with the owner where you place the key for the vehicle before the return. Do not meet hand to hand with the owner to hand over the key. Remember to keep a distance at all times, a minimum of 2-3 meters. For any guidelines, please see https://covid19.govt.nz/
I already have a car booked, but due to the lockdown I can't use it - what do I do?
Send us an email at help@mycaryourrental.com - if you have a booking where you purchased cancellation insurance, you will get a full refund. This will be processed within 5 working days and it should show up at your account within 21 days after it's processed. A refund is issued to the card that you used when you made the booking and the full rental amount is refunded. If you have not purchased cancellation insurance, your cancellation is treated as per our T&C, with the exceptions that if it's due to Covid-19, you will get full credit for use at a later stage, for now, the credit will be valid for 6 months from the time of cancellation. Rebooking in the future is a manual process for us, so please make sure to keep the email receipt from us what you will get confirming this.
Owners:
Can I list a car with you under the lockdown and Covid-19?
Yes, our sign-up for new cars are open and active. Although you should not expect to get requests during the lockdown, we expect to see business slowly return to normal once travel and movement bans start to get lifted.
I have a rental under the lockdown, can the renter collect it?
Yes, for now, this is possible. As a car owner, you should have our email regarding touch-free car rental. If you follow the procedures in the email, you should be all safe. If in doubt, send us an email at help@mycaryourrental.com and we'll guide you through the process. Remember, any travel restrictions are made by the government officials, please point out to the renter to follow the rules on https://covid19.govt.nz/ - this will keep everyone safe.

When should I expect to get paid?
For any new bookings accepted under Covid-19, payment will be made as per our T&C - if you have a rental that is completed during or prior to the lockdown you should expect delays in payment. Please see the separate email sent to you around this. MyCarYourRental is in the fortunate position that we have been able to pause all ongoing current outgoings and we do currently not rely on staff for the day to day operation, therefore, we're in a lot better position than other car rentals.
