This is a decent car for a good price. The car is large enough to carry 3 surfboards and surfers inside :) I went on a long ride through north island mountain roads - was working well. The overheating is solved now. When contacted Henrik answered fast and he even gave me very useful tips on driving and parking (remember, the driver always in the centre of the road).

That is a decent car for a good price. The car is large enough to carry 3 surfing boards and the surfers. I took this car for a long trip up to southern island - and was ok. The mentioned issues about overheating - did not concern me - it was warm about 27 and during 2 weeks rental, I only added a slight amount of water and oil.

This vehicle was perfect for exploring Northland and it fits a ton of gear. Just FYI, the button at the end of the gear shift has to be pushed in tandem with turning the key in the ignition in order to start the car. It took me a few minutes to figure that out.

Great communication, However do give time for a response and dont expect to be replied to asap, some peoples experience with fast communication can vary, depending on Henriks schedule (something i must keep in mind aswell). Henrik has good value for money regarding vehicle hire. Our vehicle was comfortable for our family with 4 and suited us perfectly. We did have some minor servicing issues but these were dealt with by henrik efficiently with good communication. Overall it served us well on our holiday.

Having flown 13+ hours with an 80 year old companion, we were highly disappointed to be left sitting on the side of the road, in the rain waiting for confirmation to pickup the car. We had communicated beforehand that we were arriving on an early morning flight and were assured that the car would be ready. Henrik had forgotten to send the email with final pickup instructions. The pickup location was a road, not Henriks place of residence or business so we could do nothing but sit in the rain and wait for confirmation from Henrik. A kind neighbour came and offered us a place to stay dry and said he often helped people waiting for a car here.

Good basic runner that’s gets you from a to b. Really great on fuel/mileage. Comfortable to drive. I took it up to the Northlands and it was good on the roads, though struggled a bit in the hills, just slows down as 1.3 engine. Car has had a colourful life so some bumps and scratches to show for it, but engine is good and drives fine. Communication with Henrick good (though sometimes slow if henrick was not near his computer) but all my queries were answered. Was easy pick up and drop off. Would recommend.

We were really happy to get a somewhat cheap and reliable car for traveling around the two Island. Henrik is very friendly and was always available when we encountered any problems.

I was really disappointed in this rental.
I should have looked properly at the vehicle.
Positive: it sat well on the road when driving.
The acceleration was decent. When it wasn’t jerking it was quite comfortable to drive.
Cons:
The vehicle was dirty both inside and out.
No aircon
Only radio or CD or lighter plugin
There was less than a quarter of a tank when we picked it up and not long after hitting the motorway the petrol light came on.
When driving the vehicle it felt like it was choking. It kept jerking and felt like it was going to konk out which is slightly scary when you don’t have roaming set up on your phone and you’re travelling from Auckland to Waiouru and no way of contacting anyone if needed.
The worst part of it all was the fact that after driving all that way it was pointed out that the rego had expired over a week prior but that wasn’t the worst part. The worst part was that the rego didn’t match the licence plate. So for pretty much 2 days I had a rental that I paid for but I couldn’t drive it incase I got pulled over and got a $200 ticket. Multiple attempts to find out what was the go. Just an email with a picture of the actual registration sticker to prove that it was registered and to show police if I got pulled up and cross fingers.
No apology or offer to reimburse part fee for the stress it caused and not being able to drive vehicle cos I didn’t know if it was legal.
Overall nope never again. Really hated the stress of having this rental.

My wife and I rented a vehicle from Hendrik for 11 weeks while we traveled the North island. The vehicle was very dirty when we took possession and smelt of wet dog but considering the cost of other rental options we dealt with it. The only issue I had was that comms were very slow. I had an issue at the time of the pick up and I couldn't get through to him. Luckily for me I was able to resolve the issue on my own but otherwise it would have been difficult situation.

We were nervous about using a new kind of car hire company, Henrik got back to us upon the initial enquiry and it was fairly straightf forward forward. Be sure to double check pick up and drop off information and that the car has been inspected by Henrik to make sure its ready for when you arrive. I needed to rent a car quickly to go on a weekend trip away, I got in touch with Henrik and he replied back to me very quickly, the original car was a bit far away to use but he said there was another one nearby that we could take for the same price. I picked the car up with no hassle it performed to my expectations and I was able to enjoy my weekend away.

I'm a single mum who travelled to NZ from Western Australia with my 5children to visit family for 14days.
The cost to rent this 7 seater vehicle for that amount of time during the xmas period was incomparable to ANY other rental company. Super affordable and such an easy online process.
Henrik had excellent communication, addressing all of my questions and requests from the booking to the pick up and drop off.
The vehicle itself was the perfect size to carry my family as well as all our luggage while we travelled from Akld to the far north, then back down to Rotorua, up into the Uruwera Ranges then back to Akld.
The vehicle wasn't in new condition but everything worked perfectly and it drove so smoothly with no issues whatsoever.
I will definitely rent through here again and have highly recommended to all my family and friends. Thank you Henrik ????

Our communication with Henrik was very challenging. When the van broke down , it was hours before he responded. We had to find our own way back , despite paying extra for the Roadside assistance ( which does not exist )
The van was filthy dirty.
It did run ok, with many quirks, for a week before it broke down.

Henrik did everything he could to replace our booked vehicle, that was stolen! And for that we are very grateful. Unfortunately the replacement vehicle was a gas guzzler and was not clean. Despite that, due to the value, we would still rent a vehicle from Henrik again.

MyCarYourRental is a good system in theory but I think as this owner has so many vehicles he operates he doesn’t keep up with things as well as he should. The MCYR customer support system is also non existent so don’t expect any help from them! They don’t have a phone number to call, only an email address and never respond so that is useless! Cars that are rented by owners on this website should at the very minimum have the following:
1) current Rego and COF
2) be cleaned between rentals both inside and out,
3) be properly maintained between rentals ie water and oil levels checked etc
4) full tank of gas
5) if renter pays an extra $60 for airport pickup and drop off that is what should be provided!
I have rented cars all over the world including many times in Auckland. This was my first time using MCYR and it will go my last! It’s definitely a great idea and I was excited to give it a try. It was not much cheaper ($10 per day) than what I found elsewhere but this experience caused unnecessary stress and frustration when dealing with issues that should not have been my concern! I would not recommend using any of this owner’s cars until improvements are made as mentioned.

Car was not available at pick up point so i had to book into a motel for the night. The vehicle was changed at
last minute then the vehicle broke down and had to
make my own way back to Auckland it cost more than
what the whole rental was do not use this service with this vehicle
